Why   Jews   and   Christians
  should   relate   to
The   G R E E N   P a r t y
by Rev. Ray Dubuque
( this is a personal, not an official Green Party site )

When the "Grand Old Party" came into existence in President Lincoln's day, the important part it played in ridding our country of the scourge of slavery gave that party some justification for thinking of itself as "God's Party".   But so much has changed in the 140 years since the Civil War, that the Republican Party has now become the party of Jefferson Davis; while the Democratic Party has been transformed into the new "party of Lincoln".

This may embarrass Greens who are not religious, but if there IS a God, and that God is represented in either the Jewish or the Christian Bible, then his or her choice for the party closest to the teaching of the Bible in America today -- according to my "educated guess" -- would not be either of the two major parties, but rather the yet small, but very idealistic, "Green Party".  If you want to see people thinking and acting like the Good Samaritan, on a grand scale , that's a good place to go.   If you have viewed the Sections 1,2, & 3 of this web site, then you know the tremendous emphasis the Bible places on social justice, as well as mercy, for the poor and the weak of this world.  And you will appreciate why I highly recommend that observant Jews and Christians consider joining and/or promoting this party.

PLATFORM     2000

Ralph Nader

I believe that Ralph Nader has proven by four decades of outstanding achievements for our country and for the world at large that he would make a great president.   [ Click on his picture to see his website; but don't forget to COME BACK.]   I am going to do my best to promote his candidacy and to greatly increase the number of his supporters, whether they become full members of the Green Party or simply supporters who remain in another or no political party.
On election day, however, if my Green friends and I have not succeed in persuading enough voters to make Ralph Nader a viable candidate,   I am not going to forget that my goal is to get my country the most progressive government possible.  If voting for a progressive candidate who has no chance of winning is going to divide the progressive vote and thereby assure the election of the least progressive candidate, then I will not "cut off my nose to spite my face", and I recommend the same to all other Greens.
We should consider the election campaign much like a primary vs. the general election.  Until the general election we should compete with the Democratic Party, and some day either defeat it, or convert it to our views.   But when the primary is over and general election day comes, we should either join with them, or they with us, to make sure the most progressive candidate possible gets elected, rather than take a chance of sticking the country with the WORSE candidate.  If the Green Party were to make that a general policy,   and were to vote as a block for the best viable candidate,   it would be in a position to guarantee the election of the best viable candidate practically every time, either its own eventually, or the next best one!
I designed the tableau below to support the Democratic Party, but it fits the Green Party as well.  Click on the picture to see why I believe the Democratic Party is an infinitely better "second choice" for Greens than the Republican alternative, and why Greens should consider the Democratic Party its closest ally, not a rival.

A special message for Ralph : Ralph Nader

This LiberalsLikeChrist.Org website is the culmination of my life as a long time devoté of both politics and religion (the former as an activist citizen and the latter as a Christian minister).  If this page is serving as your introduction to this site, then I urge you to explore the rest of the site and see how totally ridiculous the claims of the "Religious Right" and "Christian Coalition" are to represent Jesus Christ, the Bible, or God;  and why Jews and Christians who really know their respective Bibles belong in either the Democratic or the Green Party, but NOT the G.O.P. !

Like it or not, 75% of America's voters identify themselves as "Christians".   And they are voting more and more Republican, NOT because they are inherently Conservative -- the majority are NOT --,  but because the Greedy Old Party is the only one that is giving them reasons to vote for their party!  Take a look at these unique graphs, which illustrate two very important points on this matter.
Despite the fact that there is infinitely more to support Liberals than the Conservatives in the Judeo Christian Bible, and in the Gospels in particular, Conservatives and the Greedy Old Party has been getting away with their pretense of being "GOD's Party" by default, because neither the Greens nor the Democrats have contested that outlandish claim.  I would be happy to help you draft a notice to the Christian clergy DEMANDING that on the basis of Christ's word they at least refrain from endorsing the party least deserving of that endorsement, and consider endorsing instead the one which does the most to actually implement the teaching of the Hebrew Scriptures (which Christians call the "Old Testament" and of the Gospels of Jesus.
I would urge you to begin by putting a link to THIS SITE on YOUR GREEN SITES, and then urge your supporters to fight for their fair share of that 75% of the electorate!
Thank you for all that you have done for America already, Ralph, and best of luck in your quest to do more.         R D
