Clergy & other Leaders of "Religious" Organizations :

The "Reverends" Jim Bakker and Jimmy Swaggart, David Korresh and Jim Jones were not the first charismatic charlatans to lead gullible religious people astray.  And they won't be the last.  Jones and Korresh took most of their followers with them to the grave.  Not so the followers of Bakker and Swaggart, many of whom may now be following the likes of Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson,  if not Bakker and Swaggart themselves!

          Despite being the 5th highest paid college president in the country, George Roche III has not been well known outside of the Conservative Christian community.  But for years he has been a hero of theirs because, as the president of the tiny ultra-Conservative Hillsdale College (which National Review has described Hillsdale as a "citadel of American conservatism."), he has refused during the last half of his 28 year tenure, to accept federal assistance for the college or its students so as to defy the federal government's guidelines on affirmative action and equal outlays for women's sports. 
          In October of 1999, Roche was outed, however, as a thoroughly disgusting human being, when his son's wife, who has been the editor of the school's monthly journal of conservative thought, committed suicide after announcing that President Roche had been sleeping with her for the past 19 years, all but the first two years of her marriage to his son, George Roche IV.         Randall Terry, who became famous waving pictures of fetuses and chaining himself to hospital beds as founder of the militant antiabortion group Operation Rescue, was also a leader in the Terri Schiavo protests. Terry has also campaigned against infidelity and birth control, gays and unwed mothers.
        Yet Terry's own pastor publicly accused Terry, 41, of leaving his wife, Cindy, and their two children as a first step to end their "Christian marriage" and a "pattern of repeated and sinful relationships and conversations with both single and married women." His son Jamiel is gay; his daughter Tila had sex outside of marriage, became pregnant, had a miscarriage - she is no longer welcome in his home; his daughter Ebony had two children outside of wedlock and became Muslim.
        In his 1995 book, "The Judgment of God," Terry wrote, "We have become a sex crazed society.  Women are viewed as sex toys to be used and discarded by vile, pathetic males (I shall not call them men); families are destroyed as a father vents his mid life crisis by abandoning his wife for a 'younger, prettier model'. . .
        Terry ran for Congress as a Republican in New York in 1998 as one of six "righteous men," the "Patrick Henry men" as he liked to call them, campaigning on a family values platform.  He was the only one of the six to get a rare letter of support from religious broadcaster James Dobson, the equivalent, in his evangelical circles, of an endorsement from the pope.

          Conservative Christian Television Evangelist Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker were relinquished of their pastoral positions after Bakker was Indicted on 23 federal charges of fraud, tax evasion, and racketeering, for which he went to federal prison.  He was also known for bizarre sexual practices including alleged "group sex" activities with several male staffers and a female staffer. After committing adultery with Jessica Hahn, he used charitable donations to pay her hush money. Fellow televangelists say he's gay.

          Conservative pastor Terry Smith of Canyon Creek Baptist Church in Texas, was issued a Notice to Appear in court for stealing condoms from the local Skaggs Alpha Beta store in Plano, Texas. Two co-workers at the church, Mary Miller and Debbie Coleman, said Smith made unwanted sexual advances to them,possibly explaining his need for condoms.

          After Susan Smith murdered her two children, by driving her car into a lake with the two toddler strapped into their car seats in Union, South Carolina, she sent the police on a wild goose chase for supposed black carjackers and then House Speaker Newt Gingrich referred to our "sick (liberal) society"and gave this prescription for the remedy:  "the only way you get change is to vote Republican."

          In a sea full of Conservative preachers, the Rev. Ronald D. Cruise, Sr. is a very tiny fish.  But we think he deserves special recognition because he is such a great example of Conservative Christian hypocrisy.
          This is what the good Rev. thinks of anybody who tries to make the world a better place for those less fortunate than themselves:
          "If you knew anything at all about Christ or God, . . . , you would know that I nor anyone can make this world a better place.  Christ did not come to do so, nor does God wish it.  His plan is to destroy it and all things in it for the overrunning of sin and desecration.  That has been His plan from the beginning but, He has alloted a timespan beyond the time concept of man to bring all things to their fullness and allow all who will submit and accept Him to come "out of the World" now that we do not suffer His wrath and eternal separation into Hell."  ( So that's why the Bible Belt was so hospitable to the ownership of slaves, and then to terrorism, Jim Crow and segregation and discrimination!)
          "His Holiness", Rev. Ron, issued the following challenges to a friend of mine on a bulletin board,  "Find one place where I singled out any one person and said something hateful about them.  Not saying that I am perfect and in the heat of discussion, I have been known to get a little heated myself.  But, to my knowledge I have generally managed to keep an even keel in the rough waters."  And "where is there any "hate" toward any one person or groups of people?  I stated where the failures are. "  At that very moment, Rev. Ron was calling Rayosun   "Ray-o-sonofsatan", and addressing the following to me (because he can't stand a Christian clergyman admitting that there are any number of internal contradictions in the Bible http://www.LiberalsLikeChrist.Org/Inerrancy ):

It's not the personal stuff that bothers me most about Rev. Ron, however. The real reason this preacher and his "significant other" deserve a special place on our "Blind Leaders" page is because they have brought hypocrisy to a whole new level.  It seems that while they have been spending countless hours threatening homosexuals with hell fire, unless and until they turn away from their sinful life style, they themselves have been openly living in sin.
        If you count Dolly's adultery for marrying Ron after divorcing her true husband, and Ron's adultery for living with a woman not his true wife, they are publicly living in at least double adultery.  But Dollie, who often joins Rev. Ron in proclaiming the sinfulness of homosexuality online, defends her adultery as follows:

"Some Pharisees came, and to test Jesus they asked, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?"  He answered them, "What did Moses command you?"  They said, "Moses allowed a man to write a certificate of dismissal and to divorce her."
          But Jesus said to them, "Because of your hardness of heart he wrote this commandment for you.  But from the beginning of creation, 'God made them male and female.'  'For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.' So they are no longer two, but one flesh.  Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate."
        Then in the house the disciples asked him again about this matter.  He said to them, "Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her;  and if she divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery."

"Liberals Like Christ" have reservations about the bible, and deny that every verse of Scripture is equally inspired, they don't feel compelled to follow all Scripture literally themselves and they don't preach that others do so.
        But for conservatives, who insist that every verse of the Bible is equally inspired   a n d  innerant, to try to excuse and defend divorce and remarriage, which Jesus condemned in no uncertain terms, is the epitome of hypocrisy !!!!!  Such Conservatives want to be as liberal as can be in secret, when it suits them , while condemning others for being liberal openly and honestly !!!!
        "Conservatives" can be so strict when it comes to applying Scripture to others, and so "Liberal" when it comes to applying it to themselves !
        Rev. Ron claims that his Harvestime Ministries is dedicated to "promoting the Gospel of Jesus Christ throughout the World", but for Ron and Dolly, that doesn't mean that Mark 10:1-12 (above) needs to be obeyed in their own bedroom!

Many Conservative Christians have no problem with millionaire "Rev." Pat Robertson's professing to represent Jesus of Nazareth, who was no friend of the rich.  But there is a great deal about this shadowy man behind the "Christian Coalition" that should trouble any Christian, no matter how "Conservative".  Most of the quotes below are from the recent book by journalist James Retter, called Anatomy of a Scandal.
        When Pat Robertson (son of a U.S. Senator, lawyer, big business man, TV evangelist and Conservative leader) decided to run for the presidency (as a Republican) in 1988, he "made integrity and moral values the core issues of his presidential campaign.  In the speech for his declaration of candidacy, he said, 'We must bring back the old-fashioned concept of moral restraint and abstinence before marriage.' " (p.174)
        Now, when asked if it was true, as reported in the Wall Street Journal, that his own marriage had occurred on Aug. 27, 1954, just 2 1/2 months before his son was born, Robertson claimed that he was married six months earlier.  In an 10/08/87 interview with the Washington Post, he said, "I did give an honest answer" explaining that he and his wife have always considered March 22 (his own birthday) the day they were married because "our son was conceived on that day."   The couples' legal marriage on August 27, 1954, "to us, wasn't any big deal."
        The candidate told the Washington Post on 10/8/97 that it would be an error to suggest that 'there had been a pattern of deceptions' in his writings and speeches.  He said he may have occasionally  - and inadvertently -  said something 'imprecise,' and that he may have used a 'malapropism' on occasion.  But he added emphatically 'I have not lied about my marriage or anything.' " (p. 172-3)   "But the questions kept coming.  An angrier Robertson said,  ' I think it is outrageous to pry into a man's past and try to do damage to a man's wife and children under the guise of journalism.' " (p. 174)

An episcopal priest and college professor, who also earned a law degree wrote me this note about the so-called "Rev. Doctor Robinson":
        "When he ran for president years ago, he told people he had a law degree from Oxford. Being a lawyer myself, I found that quite impressive. But I had to wonder, why would a man with this kind of education say such stupid things on such a regular basis. So, I did a little investigation. The truth is, Robertson attended a non-credit summer course at Oxford. He didn't get a degree there. Indeed, I seem to remember that he never completed a degree anywhere. As someone who's been through the brutal process of law school and admission to the Florida Bar, I have little respect for anyone who would tell such a pathetic lie as Pat told, one which was so easily discovered."

However disturbing the dishonesty about his "private life"   - because of the hypocrisy of such a man posing as a miracle-working evangelist and as a missionary -   it pales in comparison to what "Rev." Pat Robertson has been doing on the world and national scenes.  Feow people who see this preacher on TV have any knowledge of Pat Robertson, the diamond and gold miner of Zaire and close friend of its' murderous dictator-president.

You've got two choices: You can wear cammies and shimmy along on your belly, or you can put on a red coat and stand up for everyone to see. It comes down to whether you want to be the British army in the Revolutionary War or the Viet Cong. History tells us which tactic was more effective. - Ralph Reed, Los Angeles Times, March 22, 1992, admitting that he wants to deceive us regarding his true aims.
        "I want to be invisible. I do guerrilla warfare. I paint my face and travel at night. You don't know it's over until you're in a body bag. You don't know until election night." - Ralph Reed, Norfolk Virginian-Pilot, November 9, 1991.
        "We should resist the temptation to identify our religious convictions with the platform of a party or the platitudes of favored politicians".   - Ralph Reed, lying to the public about the Christian Coalition's agenda in 1996.

Why didn't God wise up and help the Rev. Jerry Falwell remove President William Jefferson Clinton from office?  If God only knew what Rev. Falwell claimed to know, he could have saved this well-financed "man of God" the trouble of lying, bearing false witness, and cheating to get this job done!
        Maybe God didn't have a VCR or the money to even buy "The Clinton Chronicles", a videotape that Falwell first promoted and then tried to repudiate, when its dishonesty was uncovered.  The videotape purported to show in living color all kinds of evidence that the former Governor of Arkansas was a wholesale thief of public funds, a major drug dealer, and a sinister murderer of some 50 odd people.
        ( On the Charles Grodin's CNBC national television show Newsweek reporter Jonathan Alter charged on 2/19/98 :) "You have a video out (Clinton Chronicles) which bears false witness - which is really a sin - against President Clinton.  You accuse him of murder. "
        ( Rev. Falwell responded:)  "That is totally untrue.  Citizens for Honest Government in Calif. produced that film.   I was given a single copy, and gave that particular copy to someone in Wash., who then accused me of circulating it.  We did not."  ( In response to the reporter's follow-up question,) "You give the introduction to the film!"   Falwell countered "I did not introduce the film, and you're wrong."   (The reporter followed up: "Did you not participate in that video?")   Falwell responds: "Absolutely not! (Charles Grodin asks, "Are you on the tape, Reverend?)   Falwell responds: "I don't know if they put me on the tape or not."   Responding to press inquiries, Falwell's spokesman, Mark Demoss: "We had no involvement with the video until long after the fact.   The only role of Rev. Falwell was to tell the American people about it."   Now, don't you think a "man of God" who is charging the President of the United States of dishonesty ought to begin by being honest himself? Or are "men of God" above such laws?  Has this leader of Christian Conservatives simply forgotten what he wrote in direct mailings four years ago, asking his millions of supporters to "help me produce a national television documentary which will expose shocking new facts about Bill Clinton", which I will make available "as soon as I can raise approximately $40,000 needed to produce this video?"
        Was the Washington Post imagining things when it wrote on May 21, 1994, "Evangelist Jerry Falwell is selling a videotape that contains scathing attacks on President Clinton, charging, among other things, that the president ordered the murders of 'countless people'?"   That same month, (on CNN's show "Crossfire", Falwell represented and defended this video, saying among other things: )  "I have on hours of videotapes produced the comments, the testimonies, the view of the Arkansas people who are saying these things."  When the video's actual producer was asked about the Rev. Falwell's role in the "Clinton Chronicles", Pat Matrisciana, the founder of Citizens for Honest Government: )  "He did some info-mercials - he bought time and would ask for a donation - and (thereby) sold lots and lots of videos.   He became our largest distributor; it was the 'Falwell video'."

On a memorable trip to Sacramento in July 1984. Falwell was confronted on a TV talk show by Rev. Jerry Sloan, who attended a Missouri Bible college with Falwell and knew him well. Then a minister for the Metropolitan Community Church. Sloan criticized Falwell for making derogatory comments about the church - which serves a large gay community - on Falwell's show "Old Time Gospel Hour." Falwell denied making the statements and offered to pay Sloan $5,000, if he produced a tape of the sermon. Sloan did. On the tape Falwell called the church "vile and satanic" and said there will be "a celebration in heaven" when the church is annihilated. Falwell refused to pay. A Sacramento judge later ordered the televangelist to pay the $5,000 and attorney fees. In the end, Sloan received a check for $8,982.90. Part of that settlement was used to form the Lambda Community Center in midtown Sacramento. "Falwell is partly responsible for the center. I'm sure it bugged him," said Sloan.

Conclusion :

If you are a lover of truth, then please begin by getting and reading books such as the one from which the excerpts above has been derived, namely Anatomy of a Scandal, by James Retter, and then spreading the good word - which the mainstream media is trying to hide from the great mass of people like you and me. Or the book by the repentent David Brock who was instrumental in spread many of the lies about Bill Clinton who has since tried to make amends for his sins by publishing the truth about his former Conservative partners in crime, in a book called "Blinded By The Right". 0.
        The fact that such a man can be voted one of "the most respected men in America" is proof positive that this country is not being informed, but instead is being subjected to wholesale mis-information by a newsmedia now owned and operated by wealthy Conservative individuals and corporations.
        Rev. Jerry Falwell is the one who ought to resign, for the sake of Christianity, and perhaps take the advice given by GOD in the movie, "Oh God!", and take up an honorable profession like selling shoes.

Christian Conservatism, the Gospel according to Marvin (Olasky) :

"Born into a Jewish family in Boston, Marvin Olasky became an avowed Atheist and Marxist in high school and a member of the Communist party in 1972. While attending the University of Michigan, Olasky's beliefs made a complete reversal after a spiritual awakening: either due to a decision to read the New Testament in Russian or a sudden existential crisis while reading Lenin, Olasky found himself a fervent supporter of the Christian conservative movement. He was baptized into the Presbyterian church in 1976; in 1992 he helped found the Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Austin, TX.
        Olasky has taught in the journalism department at the University of Texas at Austin since 1983, becoming a full professor in 1993. Midway through his time as associate professor, he came to the attention of Reconstructionist philanthropist Howard Ahmanson, Jr., who gave him the editorship of the Turning Point series of books via his charitable arm, the Fieldstead Institute. Olasky wrote its first installment, A Christian Worldview Declaration (1987), as well as the Capital Research Center series Patterns of Corporate Philanthropy.
        This initial work brought him to the attention of the Bradley Foundation, which funded him as a two-year Bradley scholar at the The Heritage Foundation. His two 1988 books on the mass media, Prodigal Press: The Anti-Christian Bias of American News Media and The Press and Abortion, 1838–1988 outlined philosophies that harmonized with the Christian agenda of World magazine, of which he became editor in 1992. He was instrumental in that periodical's 1998 spawning of the World Journalism Institute, which seeks to recruit and train Christian journalists and inject them into the mainstream media.
        He has since written over 16 books, most notably The Tragedy of American Compassion (1992), which blamed the countercultural revolution of the 1960s for society's ills thirty years later and claimed that welfare needed a basis in Christianity if it was to have any lasting effect. The book gained the endorsement of William Bennett, who passed it on to Newt Gingrich, who in turn shilled it to every Republican in the House of Representatives. In January 2001, he saw the policies outlined in this book put into law with the creation of the White House Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives. George W. Bush has called him "compassoniate conservatism's leading thinker"; in 1999, he chaired an advisory subcommittee on religion and public policy for the then-governor."

• Chuck Colson was one of the most rotten of the barrel of rotten apples called "the Nixon administration". Serving a prison term for his crimes doesn't appear to have done anything to persuade Colson to turn away from his immoral past. He went right back to his deceitful conservative Republican friends. How stupid does one have to be to trust this man who went through a "conversion experience" in which he came out calling himself a "Christian", but went right back to working with the same dishonest bunch of crooks and liars that led him to betray his country for the sake of his boss?
• Rev. Louis P. Sheldon, founder of the Traditional Values Coalition.  Sheldon who, as a leader of many conservative Christians, has protested loudly against gambling, is now accused of accepted at least $25,000 from eLottery, an online lottery firm, for his assistance in
• their $2 million pro-gambling campaign.  Despite Sheldon's claim to The Washington Post that he could not remember receiving eLottery money and that he was unaware that Abramoff was involved in the campaign to defeat an anti-gambling bill, checks and e-mails obtained by The Post show that Abramoff paid both Ralph Reed and Rev.           Sgt. Mary Kusmiss of the Berkeley police said the scout leader, Eugene A. Evans, 64, a retired high school teacher and for 35 years leader of the Berkeley Sea Scouts, was arrested at his home in nearby Kensington on Tuesday after investigators identified four youths, ages 13 to 17, who said they had been sexually abused by him."

• Richard Cook : Fairbanks, AK. - A Baptist pastor from an interior village was arrested on charges he molested his adopted teen-age daughter, State Troopers said.  "The Reverend", 46, is accused of having sex with the girl twice and touching her genitals often during the past 19 months, according to court documents.  He has been charged with one count each of first- and second-degree sexual abuse of a minor.
          Troopers said Cook first sexually touched the victim, then 13, in Oct. 1997.  Four months later, the molestation became an "almost daily" event despite the girl's protests, according to court documents. The girl's adoptive mother, who had started working outside the home, suspected something was amiss because Cook "changed his behavior and demeanor," according to the documents.  But when she questioned her husband and daughter, both denied anything was going on, troopers said.  The girl attempted suicide before she reported what happened.
  Troopers said Cook has since admitted to the sexual contact, stating he knew his actions were wrong but that he "just got mixed up a bit," according to documents.
          He was arrested at a Fairbanks motel.  Cook and the women had traveled to town to seek help, said police.  AP 4/27/99

• William Nathan White, Jr., : Mascotte, FL.  - "A Baptist preacher was charged with molesting three foster children left in his care.  Pastor White, 50, was being held at the county jail on $45,000 bond, charged with three counts of sexual battery of a child under age 12, a capital offense, jail officials said. 
  Following his arrest, 8 foster children and 3 adopted children were removed from his home and placed in other foster homes according to a spokeswoman for the state Dept. of Children & Families.  State records show that White and his wife, Susan, have taken in at least 20 children since they were licensed by the state to become foster parents in 1995.
          White first was accused of sexual battery when a 7-year-old girl, who lived with the family for two weeks, told her natural mother during a visit monitored by social workers that White had molested her a sheriff's spokesman said.  The girl told investigators that while sitting on White's lap, the minister asked her if anyone had ever touched her "private area." White then placed his hand inside her clothing and fondled her, reports said.
          In a videotaped interview, a 10-year-old told authorities White had repeatedly molested her since she came to live with him in Aug., according to reports.  An 11-year-old, who lived with the Whites from Aug.  into Nov., said the pastor often had her sit on his lap while she played computer games, and he once fondled her, records said.
          Investigators plan to question every child the Whites have had in their custody since 1995.  State social workers are also reviewing their files to determine if there were any concerns raised about the Whites' home in the past."  AP 03/05/99

Darrell Bell: Hamilton, OH.  - "A Pentecostal minister convicted of repeatedly raping his daughter has been sentenced to 17-50 years in prison and fined $7,500.  Yet the judge declined to classify Rev. Bell, 50, as a sexual predator, based on court-ordered psychological exams that concluded he has a low probability of repeating the offense.  Bell has been ruled a sexually-oriented offender, which means he will have to notify local authorities where he is living and check in with them.
          His daughter, Dawn Bell, asked to be publicly identified as she helped prosecute her father, including testifying against him at trail.  She said her abuse began at age 10 and continued until she was 18 and moved away.  She later confronted her father and went to prosecutors after he refused to get counseling."  AP 6/12/99

• Matthew Eric Moore: Washington Court House, OH.  - A former youth pastor who admitted to having sex with a 15-year-old member of his youth group has been sentenced to four years in prison.  Matthew Eric Moore, 30, was sentenced after pleading guilty in Feb.  to one count of sexual battery.  Moore was originally charged with sexual battery and corruption of a minor for encounters with the girl in 1997, when he was 28 and she was a 15-year-old member of the youth group at Heritage Memorial Church.   He was sentenced to one year less than the maximum.  Moore will be placed on probation after his release and must register as a sexual offender.  AP 4/17/99

• David Joe Rich, 55 : Apopka, FL.  - A minister who molested third-graders at his church school couldn't promise that he wouldn't molest again, and so was sentenced to prison for 7 years and 4 months, followed by 10 years of probation.  The judge acknowledged the remorse of David Joe Rich, and that he took responsibility for his crimes, but said she wanted to ensure he would not harm anyone again. Rich, former pastor of Springs Community Baptist Church, pleaded guilty to molesting 2 girls and trying to molest a third during the 1995-96 school year.  He fondled the girls, ages 8 and 9, at his desk while other students were in the classroom, said the prosecutor.  The desk concealed the probing. 
          Rich apologized and made no excuses for his conduct but could not explain it.  With God's help and counseling, he said, he hoped never to molest again.  But he said he would be foolish to make a "100 percent" guarantee.  He had resigned when confronted about the abuse 2 years after it ended.
          While on probation, Rich must get counseling.  He cannot be alone with children younger than 18 or live near a school or other place where children visit.  The judge told Rich he should bring his ministry to prison.  "There are people in prison who could use your services," she said.  Orlando Sentinel, 12/4/1998

• Rev. Joseph Millien: West Palm Beach - A former pastor who claimed he was testing a girl's virginity was convicted of sexually molesting the teen-ager.  Rev. Millien, 51, was found guilty of felony sexual activity with the 17-year-old member of the Full Gospel Assembly Church, but acquitted of a sexual battery charge.  He denied having any other sexual contact with the girl.  The judge revoked Millien's bond and ordered him to jail until sentencing scheduled a few weeks later.  Under sentencing guidelines, he could get 6 to 12 years in prison as a first-time offender.  AP, 10/28/98

Bush's), joined the Taliban at the very time that the U. S. A. had given the Taliban government of Afghanistan 43 million dollars.
