Serious study of the Bible, and of the four Gospels in particular should lead "believers" to be liberals |

The bible was the very first book to be printed with moveable type. And ever since then it has been the most widely circulated and read book on earth. There is no question that it has been the most influential book ever read, but the question must be asked, "Has that influence always been for the good?" And if that question is answered honestly, Conservative Christians may not be proud of the answer. As a Christian clergyman, I believe the bible is a great book, but I have discovered too many flaws and problems with this book to believe the claim of many of its promoters that it is "God's Word", and therefore perfect and inerrant. We agree with Conservative Christians who would like to see the study of the Bible made a part of the public school curriculum, so long as that teaching is not controlled by adherents of the bible who only want to teach their own narrow and biased view of that extraordinary book. Some people have promotted the idea of teaching the Bible "as literature" or art, etc. But it's impossible to talk about the bible without talking about its impact on the history of national and international politics. Here are some bible study topics that Liberals might LOVE to see taught in public schools: |
